Day 17: Arrival in Krabi

Cleared to travel, we flew to Krabi, checked into the COSI in Ao Nang, swam in the pool and watched our first Andaman sunset with a Chang.

Once we were cleared to travel, we flew south to Krabi and checked into the COSI in Ao Nang. Ao Nang is the main jumping-off point for boats to Railay and the islands, and the town faces west over the Andaman Sea.

We marked our freedom with a swim in the pool and a stroll down to the beach. That westward view is why the sunsets there are so good. Our first one, with a cold Chang in hand, felt very well earned after ten days indoors.

Good to know

  • Ao Nang: it faces west over the Andaman Sea, which is why the sunsets are so good, and it’s the main jumping-off point for boats to Railay and the islands.

We checked these details in October 2026. Times, prices and rules do change, so it’s worth a quick look at the official sites before you go.

See it on film

Most of our trips have a film on YouTube, from puffins on Skomer to the Drake Passage.
