Day 21: A Day at Railay Beach

A longtail boat from Ao Nang to Railay Beach for a day on the white sand below the limestone cliffs, plus a look inside the Bat Cave.

We took a traditional longtail boat from Ao Nang round to Railay Beach. The peninsula can only be reached by boat, and the crossing from Ao Nang is a short one of around 10 to 15 minutes. Railay is known for its limestone cliffs, which rise straight up out of the sand.

The day went on lying on the white beach and poking around the dark depths of the Bat Cave. We got back to Ao Nang just as the sun was going down.

Good to know

  • Getting to Railay: it can only be reached by boat. Longtails from Ao Nang take 10 to 15 minutes, cost about 100 baht each way, and leave once there are around eight passengers. Fares go up after dark.
  • What to bring: the boats land on the beach, so expect to wade ashore.

We checked these details in October 2026. Times, prices and rules do change, so it’s worth a quick look at the official sites before you go.
