Day 5: Ancient Cities and Museums

New Year's Day at the Erawan Museum with its giant three-headed elephant, then the Ancient City and its replicas of Thailand's temples.

New Year’s Day took us to the Erawan Museum, with its giant three-headed elephant, and then to the huge grounds of the Ancient City. Both were created by Lek Viriyaphant, and the museum’s elephant is made of copper.

It was a quiet way to start the year. The Ancient City, also known as Muang Boran, covers 316 acres, and in one peaceful afternoon we wandered past replicas of many of Thailand’s most beautiful temples and historic monuments.
