Preparing for Departure and Boarding the Ocean Endeavour

Our last morning in Ushuaia: last-minute shopping, lunch at Ramos Generales El Almacén, meeting the crew and boarding the Ocean Endeavour for Antarctica.

This morning we packed our luggage, ready for the Ocean Endeavour, then headed into Ushuaia to pick up a few last-minute bits for the trip. In town we came across a mural of penguins painted on a wall, with a signpost reading “World’s End”.

Lunch was at Ramos Generales El Almacén before we met the crew and finally went aboard, very excited about the voyage south. The Ocean Endeavour was built in 1981 and takes about 200 passengers.

Good to know

  • The ship: the Ocean Endeavour was built in 1981 and takes about 200 passengers. Intrepid ran its Antarctic trips from 2022 to 2025, so the operator may be different now. Intrepid Travel
  • Last-minute shopping: Ushuaia has outdoor shops if you’ve forgotten anything. Our Antarctica packing list covers what you’ll actually need.

We checked these details in October 2026. Times, prices and rules do change, so it’s worth a quick look at the official sites before you go.

See it on film

Most of our trips have a film on YouTube, from puffins on Skomer to the Drake Passage.
