The Sacred Monkey Forest

Riding a moped to the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali, a rainforest laid out on Hindu principles and home to hundreds of playful monkeys.

We rode the winding roads by moped to reach the Monkey Forest in Ubud. The forest is laid out according to Hindu principles and is home to a huge number of monkeys, most of them very playful. They’re long-tailed macaques, and the sanctuary now counts more than a thousand.

There are three temples inside it, and the biggest is Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal. Even with the monkeys everywhere, it’s a peaceful place.
