The Mürren Trek and Alpine Meadows

Our trek from Grütschalp up to the Allmendhubel viewpoint, lunch on the terrace, then the flower trail through Schiltalp to Mürren above Lauterbrunnen.

We made an early start, taking the train to Lauterbrunnen and then going up to Grütschalp to begin the trek towards Allmendhubel. A cable car climbs from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp, and from there a little railway carries on along the hillside to Mürren.

The path climbed through sweet-smelling forest and meadows full of alpine flowers until we reached the viewpoint at just over 1,900m. Allmendhubel sits at 1,907m, above Mürren, and is reached from the village by funicular. Lunch on the terrace came with a view, and afterwards we followed the flower trail on to Mürren, passing the old mountain pastures of Schiltalp. More than 150 kinds of alpine flower grow along that trail. It was a peaceful walk, with the glaciers in sight for much of the way.
