The Hidden Thunder of Trümmelbach

Visiting Trümmelbach Falls, ten glacier-fed waterfalls inside the mountain in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, then walking back to Lauterbrunnen.

We went down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley to see Trümmelbach Falls.

There are ten glacier-fed waterfalls here, all hidden inside the mountain, and you reach them through tunnels and galleries cut into the rock, with a tunnel lift to take you inside. Up to 20,000 litres of water a second pour through, and the noise of it forcing its way through is deafening. It makes you feel very small. In places the water thunders through a narrow chasm in the rock, and the spray gets everywhere.

Walking back to Lauterbrunnen afterwards gave us a gentler look at the valley’s huge cliffs and green slopes, and then we went back up to Wengen, which by now felt like home.
