Arrival in Seminyak

Landing at Ngurah Rai airport, welcome drinks at our villa in Seminyak, and our first evening in Bali eating Mexican food at Motel Mexicola.

We landed at Ngurah Rai airport and were driven straight to Seminyak, our base for the first week before we moved inland to Ubud. It’s only about 10km from the airport, though Bali’s traffic can make even that short distance take a good while. When we reached the villa, our host met us with welcome drinks.

We spent the first evening at Motel Mexicola, a lively Mexican place with great food and a real party feel. It got the holiday off to a good start.

Good to know

  • Before you fly: UK visitors need a visa on arrival (IDR 500,000 for 30 days, which you can buy online as an e-VOA) and must fill in the free All Indonesia arrival card in the three days before landing. GOV.UK
  • Bali tourist levy: every foreign visitor pays IDR 150,000 per visit, online through Love Bali or at counters at the airport. It started in 2024, after our trip. Love Bali
  • Airport to Seminyak: it’s only about 10km, but allow 45 minutes to an hour and a half for the traffic.

We checked these details in October 2026. Times, prices and rules do change, so it’s worth a quick look at the official sites before you go.
