Over the course of our trip, we experienced unforgettable hikes, breathtaking scenery, and cultural highlights. Day 1 - Arrival in Zurich
Our trip to Switzerland started with a flight from Gatwick to Zurich. Upon arrival, we quickly stored our bags in the SBB Lockers at Zurich Hauptbahnhof (the main train station). It was a convenient option, making our arrival smooth. You can find more information about the lockers [here].
Next, we enjoyed a relaxed lunch at Ass-Bar, a popular spot known for fresh, healthy salads and light bites. It was the perfect place to recharge after our journey.
After lunch, we checked into Hotel Montana Zürich, located right in the city center. Once settled, we took a walk through Zurich’s historic streets. The lively atmosphere immediately made us feel at home.

In conclusion, after a restful night and a day of exploring Zurich, we felt excited and ready to begin our adventure into Switzerland’s stunning scenery.

Day 2 - Exploring Zurich and Visiting the Lindt Factory
Today, we checked out of Hotel Montana Zürich and moved to the Crowne Plaza Zurich for a short stay. To make our day easier, we stored our luggage in the SBB Lockers at Zurich Hauptbahnhof (the main station). You can find more details about the lockers [here]. This allowed us to explore the city without the burden of our bags.
Next, we took the Number 3 tram from outside Zurich HB (the main train station) to Albisriederplatz. The ride was smooth and offered a glimpse of Zurich’s diverse neighborhoods. From there, it was just a short walk to the hotel.
In the afternoon, we visited the Lindt Factory. It was a sweet experience — learning about the chocolate-making process and sampling delicious treats. The factory tour was a highlight of our day.

Overall, it was a day of travel, city exploration, and new friendships — setting a great foundation for the days ahead.

Day 3 - Travel to Wengen and Exploring the Surroundings
Today, we embarked on a scenic train journey from Zurich HB to Wengen, immersing ourselves in Switzerland’s breathtaking landscapes. The views along the way were absolutely stunning. Upon arrival, we dropped off our luggage at Braunbär Hotel & Spa, our cosy mountain retreat.
After settling in, we took the cable car up to Männlichen. There, we enjoyed the Royal Walk trail, which offered unforgettable panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. We took our time to soak in the scenery, capture photos, and appreciate the serenity of the Swiss Alps.
Later, we hiked down from Männlichen to the midway cable car station. The fresh mountain air and beautiful vistas made the walk truly special. At the bottom, we grabbed a refreshing beer from the Coop supermarket. Then, we took the cable car back up to Wengen.
Once back at the hotel, we relaxed in the pool and sauna. It was a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring.
In the evening, we regrouped for dinner at The Deck Restaurant. We enjoyed hearty Swiss dishes and shared stories of our first adventures in this stunning region.
Overall, it was a fantastic start to our time in Wengen. The day combined scenic hikes, relaxation, and great company.

Day 4 - The Iconic First Hike near Grindelwald
Today, we embarked on one of the most iconic hikes in the Swiss Alps: the First Hike near Grindelwald. We took the cable car from Grindelwald up to First, enjoying spectacular views during the ascent.
Once at the top, we started our hike along well-marked trails. The scenery was breathtaking — towering peaks, lush meadows, and colorful wildflowers surrounded us. The highlight of the day was reaching Lake Bachalpsee, a stunning mountain lake famous for its mirror-like surface that reflects the surrounding mountains.
We paused here to take photos, relax, and soak in the tranquility of this alpine paradise. The scenery was simply mesmerising, with sweeping views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
After enjoying our time at the lake, we leisurely walked back down to Grindelwald. We felt energised and grateful for this unforgettable experience.
In summary, the First Hike was a highlight of our Swiss trip. It offered a perfect blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventure.

Day 5 - The Mürren Trek: From Wengen to Allmendhubel and Beyond
Today, we set out early from Wengen. We caught the scenic 8:12 AM train to Lauterbrunnen. From there, we took the cable car up to Grutschalp, where our hike began.
The trail started with a gentle ascent through lush forests and flower-filled meadows. It led us toward Allmendhubel, a stunning viewpoint and mountain restaurant at 1,932 meters. We paused here for lunch, enjoying panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks, glaciers, and alpine scenery. The views from the terrace were breathtaking — a perfect spot to relax and take in the scenery.
After lunch, we continued our hike along the flower trail toward Mürren. We passed through charming alpine landscapes and vibrant wildflower meadows. Next, we made our way to Schiltalp (Alpgenossenschaft Schilt), a traditional mountain pasture. There, we enjoyed more spectacular views and the peaceful atmosphere of the Swiss Alps.
From Schiltalp, we descended back to Mürren, completing our scenic trek. The route offered a wonderful mix of mountain beauty, floral landscapes, and Swiss charm. It was truly a memorable day.

Day 6 - From Interlaken to Giessbach and Iseltwald
We started our day by taking the train from Wengen to Interlaken, enjoying a scenic ride through the Swiss countryside. Once in Interlaken, we boarded a boat across Lake Brienz to the charming village of Giessbach. The boat trip offered stunning views of the mountains and crystal-clear waters, setting a perfect tone for the day.
Upon arriving at Giessbach, we began a hike up to Giessbachfälle, the spectacular waterfalls cascading down the mountainside. The trail wound through lush forests and along the edge of the falls. It provided incredible views and a refreshing experience immersed in nature. We paused at various viewpoints to admire the roaring waterfalls and the lush scenery.
After exploring the falls and enjoying the scenery, we descended to Iseltwald, a picturesque lakeside village. The colorful houses and tranquil waters created a peaceful atmosphere. We wandered along the lakeshore, taking in the beautiful vistas of Lake Brienz.
Finally, we boarded the bus back to Interlaken, ending a day filled with natural beauty and Swiss charm. It was a relaxing, picturesque day that truly captured the essence of this stunning region.

Day 7 - Exploring the Top of Europe at Jungfraujoch
Today was a highlight of our trip: visiting Jungfraujoch, famously known as the Top of Europe. To ensure a smooth journey, we pre-booked our tickets the night before. Early in the morning, we caught the 06:13 AM train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen. From there, we transferred to a train heading to Grindelwald Terminal, where we switched to the cogwheel train that took us through rugged mountains to Jungfraujoch.
The ride was breathtaking. It wound through snow-capped peaks and glaciers, culminating at Jungfraujoch Station at 3,454 meters — the highest railway station in Europe. We spent several hours exploring the attractions, including the Ice Palace, the viewing platform with panoramic views of the Aletsch Glacier, and the Sphinx Observatory. The stunning vistas of the Alps from this vantage point are truly unforgettable.
After soaking in the scenery and taking plenty of photos, we caught the 11:45 AM train back down to Kleine Scheidegg. From there, we enjoyed a scenic hike back to Wengen, passing through beautiful alpine landscapes, charming villages, and lush meadows. The walk was a perfect way to unwind after the morning’s adventure, offering more stunning views and a peaceful end to an exhilarating day.
It was a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience — reaching the highest point accessible by train in Europe.

Day 8 - Exploring the Trümmelbach Falls
Today was a day filled with natural wonders. We started by taking the train from Wengen to Lauterbrunnen, enjoying the scenic ride through the Swiss Alps. From Lauterbrunnen, we caught a bus that took us directly to Trümmelbach Falls — a series of remarkable waterfalls hidden inside a mountain in the valley.
The falls are a stunning natural spectacle. Powerful torrents of water cascade through tunnels and caves carved by nature over thousands of years. We explored the tunnels and observation points, marveling at the force of the water as it thundered through the mountain. It was a truly awe-inspiring experience.
After visiting the falls, we hiked back from Trümmelbach to Lauterbrunnen. Along the way, we enjoyed lush scenery and breathtaking mountain views. Once in Lauterbrunnen, we relaxed and took in the charming village atmosphere before catching the train back to Wengen.

Day 9 - Farewell to Our Swiss Adventure
Today marked the end of our incredible journey through the Swiss Alps. We said goodbye to our fellow travellers, sharing hugs and many fond memories of the adventures we’d experienced together. Afterward, we took some time to simply enjoy the charming village of Wengen.
We wandered through the quiet streets, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere and reminiscing about the highlights of our trip. To wrap up our visit, we stopped at a cosy local shop for a coffee. Savoring the warm drink, we reflected on the breathtaking scenery, mountain hikes, and unforgettable experiences of the past days.
It was a perfect, relaxed ending to an amazing trip — cherishing the serene beauty of Wengen and the wonderful people we met along the way.

Day 10 - Journey Back to Zurich and Sunset at Polyterrasse
Today, we bid farewell to the Swiss Alps and travelled back to Zurich. The train ride from Wengen to Zurich was scenic, offering beautiful landscapes along the way. Once in the city, we checked back into Hotel Montana, our cosy base for the final part of our trip.
In the evening, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Rheinfelder Bierhalle, a lively spot known for hearty Swiss and German dishes. After dinner, we took the historic Central Polybahn funicular up to Polyterrasse, a popular viewpoint offering stunning sunset views over Zurich. We watched as the city was bathed in golden light, reflecting on the incredible adventures and beautiful scenery we had experienced.
It was the perfect way to end our journey — with delicious food, breathtaking views, and the warm glow of a Swiss sunset.

Day 11 - Farewell Zurich
Our last day in Switzerland began with a visit to Französ Coffee Shop. We enjoyed a delicious coffee there, relaxing in the cosy atmosphere. After that, we took a leisurely walk around Zurich. This allowed us to soak in the city’s vibrant vibe and admire its beautiful architecture.
For lunch, we headed to Yard Bird, a trendy restaurant known for its tasty dishes. It was the perfect place to say farewell to Swiss cuisine and reflect on our incredible journey.
Later, we packed our bags and made our way to the train station. We caught the train to Zurich Airport, ready for our flight. From there, we flew back to London Gatwick, carrying unforgettable memories of the Swiss Alps, charming villages, and breathtaking landscapes.
In the end, it was a wonderful trip, filled with scenic views and new experiences that we will cherish forever.
